Sit down for a beverage at Coop de Ville’s Shuck Shack while you wait for a take-out meal, or stick around and enjoy a local feel right along the Oak Bluffs Harbor.

Petey Berndt, owner of Coop de Ville and the Shuck Shack says, “We’re dog-friendly. We have [sic] the same food as Coop de Ville. Plus, we have [sic] the best raw bar on the harbor.”

The Shuck Shack offers an array of craft beverages, such as the Rare Fiddlehead brewed in Vermont, or the Longboard brewed in Hawaii. Along with their impressive display of beverages, food is always a positive option for customers.

The Shuck Shack boasts fresh littleneck clams, local Honeysuckle oysters on a half shell, and a jumbo shrimp cocktail. The display of each is element is arguably as appetizing as the view.

Bartender, Ben Biron, sits behind the bar shucking oysters as he explains the process of the task. He remains calm and focused while he splits the shell with a blade. Biron makes the presentation of oyster full by driving a fork under its grips to the shell and flips the bite over. He then cleans the shell. A visiting customer, Rob O’ Connor, noticed the effects.

“The oysters taste like the [Nantucket] sound. They are plump and delicious,” O’ Connor said.

The four-year-old Shuck Shack has a menu with range considering its affiliation with the 33-year-old Coop de Ville.

An option like the Yellow Fin Tuna Fish Tacos comes dazzled with more yellow in its pineapples, purple in its cabbage slaw, and then its red and green peppers. All of which is drizzled over with Spicy Red Pepper aioli which keeps a flavor as colorful as it appears.

If your appetite is light on the given day, a cup of clam chowder may be your answer. It comes creamy and without a shortage of clam.

If seafood isn’t your whole party’s idea of special, Coop de Ville’s menu has a positive history with its one-of-a-kind chicken wings and bacon burgers.

Biron, also a self-proclaimed town gossip, highlights the local feel at Shuck Shack. “It’s the only place that locals go around here. If you want to know who fell off a barstool last night, come talk to me” Biron said.

Sitting on the other side of the bar is a local, Will Caffey, who seemed to nod along with this notion. “They’re the first place to open, last place to close” Caffey said.

When a vibe like this accompanies taste-worthy beverages and food, the location is difficult to walk away from. Try the Shuck Shack.
