From Flea, to Shining Flea: Exploring the Outdoor Market Phenomenon on Martha’s Vineyard
On days with fair weather, an odd phenomenon occurs in the pastures and vacant parking lots of the island. The sharp jangle of handmade jewelry and storied antiques creates a kind of music that blends with the soft strumming of the guitar and the voices of shop-owners in the summer heat. In open outdoor markets Island-wide , the episode above repeats itself, week after week throughout the summer.
A Playground for Color at Soft as a Grape
The sign by the front door gives you two options; follow the arrow pointed outside towards the “Real World,” or allow yourself to be pointed in the direction of the “Vineyard.” Choose the latter, and you’ll find yourself immersed in a playground of color, not unlike the blooming hydran-geas that dominate the lawns of nearby vacation homes. From brilliant white and subdued pink to vivid blues, greens, and a signature soft purple, the garden that flourishes inside the familiar Soft as a Grape storefront is a completely unique collection of all things Vineyard. However, you won’t find any flowers here; comfort is the name of the game and their stock of sweatpants, tees, hats, and sweatshirts certainly delivers.
Isola Restaurant Ready to Open
Scheduled to open this weekend, Isola is the Holy Trinity of Italian cuisine; the father, the son, and holy cannoli – the food is molto bene. A local bunch, the Sullo family is bringing more than just spaghetti and meatballs to Edgartown. The restaurant is divided into three sections: a storefront, a dining room and bar, and a pizzeria – all neatly tucked in behind the Majestic Court house and with the store front facing Church Street conveniently located next to the Edgartown Visitors Station.
Activity Spotlight: The Seas, They Beckon
On a fine day, when the weather is clear, the water unrolls itself in a lovely navy carpet, away from the shores of Martha’s Vineyard until flirting with the horizon that lies just out of eye’s reach. All that is needed on days like these is a way to traverse the shining seas. From an unassuming shack on the Oak Bluffs marina, the people of MV Oceansports provide this much needed service, renting a wide variety of boats and other small vessels.
Grab a Bite and a Great Deal at Bite on the Go
There is a lot to a restaurant name and for Bite on the Go it describes perfectly what this Brazilian/American restaurant does best. It is a great place to go for a relaxed meal with the family and friends or for a quick “Bite on the Go” for the busy vacationer or local. With a menu diverse enough to accommodate every craving, customers can select their meal from a revolving buffet that includes both Brazilian and American favorites, eating in the spacious dining area or, conveniently, taking a container of food to go.

Little Stirs on the Island of Silence: Exploring the Sounds of Chappaquiddick
There are a thousand noises that echo across the Vineyard, but none are more rare than the sound of silence. The neon buzz of Oak Bluffs and the high end clamor of Edgartown are indeed an experience, but sometimes what a person needs is a little peace and quiet. On the island of Chappaquiddick, fondly nicknamed ‘Chappy’ by island residents, peace and quiet muffle the weary island traveler’s footsteps.
