Watch Chastity Washington work a room into fits of laughter at The MV Comedy Fest

The Seventh Annual Martha’s Vineyard Comedy Fest presented by HBO, Ebony and Comcast NBC Universal once again brings laughs to the island during the month of August.
The MV Comedy Fest has quickly become a favorite island tradition. Organized by Knock-Knock Productions of Chicago, the “Fest” brings the most talented stand-up comics and entertainers for a must-see show celebrating African-American heritage and history.
Shows will be held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night during the weeks of August 7, August 14 and August 21. The location is Lola’s, 15 Island Inn Road, Oak Bluffs.
This year, the “Fest” has created a dinner package that can be purchased with tickets. The dinner package includes appetizer, entrée and dessert. Offerings include Gumbo, Clam Chowder, Southern Fried Chicken and Waffles, BBQ Shrimp, Grits, Mango Glazed Atlantic Salmon and sensational desserts.
Each Week until the festival we will feature an interview with one of the many talented comedians that will take the stage in August. We start this series with Chastity Washington.
Chastity Washington’s comedic performance spans some two decades. She has performed in various clubs and at myriad colleges across the country and parts of Canada. Highlights include appearances on BET Comic View and HBO Def Jam. Chastity is the recipient HBO Comedy Wings Award, and participated in NBC diversity finals and NBC College Tour. This multifaceted comedian has also worked as a middle and high school teacher. Chastity continues to work and perform to make world laugh.
Ahead of this summer’s annual MV Comedy Fest, Chastity took a few minutes from her busy schedule for a quick Q&A discussion with This Week on MV.
- We finish the interview and you step outside and find a lottery ticket that ends up winning $10 million. What would you do?
- I would buy a Condo and a car move and do it again in another city.
- What was the last gift you gave someone?
- The last gift I gave was money.
- Money appears to be a reoccurring theme, what do you think about when you’re alone in your car? Money?
- Quietly in my car I think about becoming a better person.
- If you were a crayon, what color would you be?
- My crayon color would be aqua blue, so I could be refreshing and calm.
- What are your favorite jam songs?
- My jams are any Michael Jackson song.
- If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?
- If I could be any animal I would be a koala bear so I could eat leaves, sleep in trees and be soft and cuddly.
- What were you like in high school?
- I was loud and fun in high school.
- What are watching now for entertainment?
- I’ve been watching F is For Family on Netflix. I watch it because it’s hilarious!
- Any advice for your previous boss?
- I don’t have any advice, just thank you for hiring me.
- What is the funniest thing that has happened to you recently?
- The funniest thing that happened lately is I was breaking up a fight with two of my students, lost my shoe and got dragged by a 13-year-old’s belt.
