There are few better ways to spend a summer evening than to enjoy a concert. Even amidst the rustic island charm that covers most of Martha’s Vineyard, there are still lots of great venues for shows. There are also plenty of good bands, both local and off-island, that are hoping to appear in the soundtrack of your summer.
During this summer, I will be blogging about some of the hottest acts playing on island. I’ll also try to spotlight some of the well-known and not as well-known local bands that call Martha’s Vineyard home.
My first concert preview takes place tomorrow evening at the Dive Bar in Oak Bluffs. At 10 p.m. the Dune Billy All-Stars will take the stage for a fun evening of ska/reggae influenced tunes.
This collaboration of eight musicians hails from Cape Cod. Their shows are described as “a rocking Reggae Funky Dance Party” by Reverb Nation.
The music of Dune Billy All-Stars offers a good mix of covers and original songs. For a good sample of their sound, interested fans should check out their video of the song “Hit The Breaks.” The tune is a chill one reminiscent of Caribbean-inspired reggae. The lyrics offer an uplifting message and provide an exceedingly chill atmosphere for one of the island’s most popular bars.
With reggae music being one of the island’s most popular genres, Dune Billy All-Stars are as good a band as any to start with for the first great concert of the summer season.
