Where the Locals Go For All Things Seafood (and a Little Sweetness, Too!)
by Alexandra Bassett
What do Baked Stuffed Lobsters, Yellowfin Tuna and Deep Dish Apple Pie have in common? Edgartown Seafood, of course. Located at 138 Cooke Street just off of Upper Main Street (catty-corner to the Mobil station), this tiny, family-owned, seafood market packs a big whallop, offering everything from the freshest, locally-caught fish and take-out you can find, to mouth-watering, out-of-the-oven, deep dish fruit pies of all kinds.
“You gotta eat fish to catch fish,” says proprietor and islander Danny Larsen, who used to fish himself. “We pride ourselves on offering fresh seafood, and all the best local fishermen bring us what they’ve caught.” From mild Codfish and tasty-sweet Striped- Bass, to sushi-grade Yellowtail and Yellowfin Tuna, the day’s catch here is plentiful and varied, and also one of the best deals in town. “We’re a local favorite,” says chef Johnny Petrosinelli, “because our prices are good and everything’s fresh – our baked, stuffed lobsters are right out of the waters of MV, and we even make our own tartar and cocktail sauce. Plus, customers can call us 45-minutes before stopping by and have their lobsters boiled and ready to go with warm butter and all the fixings.”
In fact, Edgartown Seafood is a lobster-lover’s paradise: take your pick of live lobsters, Lobster Rolls, Lobster Mac ‘n Cheese, or Baked Stuffed Lobsters stuffed with scallops, shrimp, and lobster claws in a sweet potatoe and vidalia onion base, topped with a creamy, Newburg-Alfredo sauce. There’s also steamers, mussels, and littlenecks boiled to order or fresh on half-shell, and delicious, freshly-made dips and pates including smoked Bluefish pate, jalapeno crab dip, and tuna spread, perfect for the beach and picnics.
Not hooked yet? Well, that’s just the beginning of the take-out menu. Whether you like classic New England like creamy clam chowder, stuffed quahogs, and crabcakes; a little bit of Tex-Mex like decadent seafood chimchangas and fish tacos with roasted red pepper aioli; or southern-style fried oyster, shrimp, and scallop Po’ Boy sandwiches on fresh baguette, you can find it here. There’s also kid-friendly items like Chicken Tenders with Fries and Captain Crunch Fish Sticks, plus a Buffalo Chicken Wrap or Classic Chicken Sandwich for those who prefer land food.
To top it all off, Johnny makes fresh, deep-dish, fruit pies of every kind daily, from Dutch Apple and Blueberry, to Key Lime and Apple Cranberry, that sell out as fast as he can make them. He’ll even make a custom pie. “All a customer has to do is call us 24-hours in advance, and if we can find the ingredients, we’ll make it,” says Johnny.
So whether you’re a die-hard seafood or pie-lover alike, or just enjoy taking in some local flavor while exploring the island, Edgartown Seafood is must-visit spot bound to satisfy your summer seafood cravings and more.
