Catching Up with Marc Glasser, Owner of Whatever Sterling Silver

On a bustling Wednesday morning in Vineyard Haven, I caught up with Whatever Sterling Silver owner Marc Glasser to talk about his jewelry cart, brick and mortar storefront, and life on Martha’s Vineyard.
As he rearranged pieces on his cart, this charismatic local seems to know anyone and everyone that passes by Main Street. I asked Marc about how the cart and storefront came to be.
His love for jewelry started at a young age, he reminisces on the sidewalk. As a high school student, he worked for a family friend, casting stones, making molds, and setting diamonds and gemstones. His passion did not stop there. After college, Marc moved to St. Thomas to work at vendors plaza, a spot he would manage for six years.
When Marc finally moved to MV, Whatever Sterling Silver was born. First, there was just one cart, which turned into two, then three, and eventually four as summer’s passed.
In 2008, along with wife Heidi, Marc obtained 1 Main Street in Edgartown. The prime location was split with the bike shop next door and the permanent Whatever Sterling Silver opened for business.
Although the cart business does not last forever, Marc commits every day to his customers and admits that summer on MV would not be the same without them. With a variety of classic to contemporary pieces, Marc assures customers that there is something for everyone. I even had my eye on a quintessential Cape Cod bracelet.
