by Caroline Berzak

Sing it loud and sing it proud. Every Monday night at the newly renovated Ritz Café is Karaoke night and the talent is crawling out of the woodworks. This week’s theme is Elvis so bring on the hair gel and your blue suede shoes.

Afraid of the spotlight? Ease into the tunes by joining one of the group sing-a-longs. Plus, a little liquid courage from one of the many talented bartenders won’t hurt your cause.

With a rich history, The Ritz Cafe has a long standing tradition on the Island. Since 1967, it has been family owned by Janet King and her four siblings. At the end of June this summer, the torch was passed to Larkin and Jacqueline Stallings. Minor renovations were done and Ritz was reopened July 4th.

Longtime seasonal residents, Larking and Jacqueline have kept the tradition alive with fantastic live music and a locally sourced business.Larkin said patrons were at first apprehensive about having a karaoke night but since, the weekly event has proven wildly popular with a crowded bar and talented lineups. Stallings called it “stupid fun” and ensured it is an experience that cannot be missed.

Other nights you will be sure to catch a great set of live music featuring one the following: the talented Mike Benjamin, guitarist Don Groover, vocalist Sabrina Leuning, classic rock band Mark Grandfield & Friends, Barbara Hoy, Second Power, Pinto Abrams, Susan Tedeschi, Maynard Silva or The Fabulous Ritz House Band, among other talented performers. The room becomes electrifying once the dance floor heats up and the en ergy keeps going until 1 a.m.– enjoy the ride!
