Once the sun begins to set, and the beach crowd hits the streets to head back home, the Oak Bluffs nightlife takes a whole new turn. The transition from shoppers to night-owls makes it’s move within minutes attracting just the right amount of business–if not more–to the taverns and street bars of Circuit Avenue. But, behind the wild scenes and department stores is a hot spot located next to the Oak Bluffs Post Office; the Martha’s Vineyard Bakery welcomes islanders and travelers to the rich taste of freshly made donuts, warm apple fritters, and more.
When I was waiting in the line that piled out the door and through the parking lot, I noticed that the closer I got to the entrance, the stronger the sweet bakery aroma filled the air. The crowd multiplies by the hour making this a cool place for a hot treat, famously known as “Back Door Donuts”, the place to be. Despite the long wait, I’d say it’s totally worth it. Open from 7:30 pm to 12:58 am, the “Back Door” welcomes all ages–big or small! So if you’re looking for some fresh cinnamon rolls, or warm flaky croissants, hurry over to Martha’s Vineyard Gourmet Cafe and Bakery’s “Back Door Donuts”–get ’em while they’re hot!
