“Independent Woman” Melanie Comarcho Will Bring Lots of Laughs to the MV Comedy Fest
The The Seventh Annual Martha’s Vineyard Comedy Fest presented by HBO, Ebony and Comcast NBC Universal once again brings laughs to the island during the month of August.
The MV Comedy Fest has quickly become a favorite island tradition. Organized by Knock-Knock Productions of Chicago, the “Fest” brings the most talented stand-up comics and entertainers for a must-see show celebrating African-American heritage and history.
Shows will be held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night during the weeks of August 7, August 14 and August 21. The location is Lola’s, 15 Island Inn Road, Oak Bluffs.
This year, the “Fest” has created a dinner package that can be purchased with tickets. The dinner package includes appetizer, entrée and dessert. Offerings include Gumbo, Clam Chowder, Southern Fried Chicken and Waffles, BBQ Shrimp, Grits, Mango Glazed Atlantic Salmon and sensational desserts.

Participating at this year’s event is Melanie Comarcho, an accomplished actress, writer and comedian.
Melanie’s early projects include “The Jamie Foxx Show” and the 33rd and 36th NAACP Image Awards. Later, Melanie acted in the dramatic comedy “Hair Show,” “Martin Lawrence Presents: 1st Amendment Standup,” and “First Sunday.” More recently, Melanie appeared in “Melanie Comarcho: Hello!”
Melanie sat down for a quick Q&A with This Week on MV.
Q. What are you known for?
A. I am known for being the lady they call when the “big boys” go on tour.
Q. What do you do in your free time?
A. In my free time I like to play with my granddaughter—and sleep.
Q. You’ve been given an elephant. You cannot give it away or sell it. What would you do with the elephant?
A. If given an elephant that I could not sell or give away, I would take it to different hospitals for sick patients to see and touch.
Q. Who would win a fight between Spiderman and Batman?
A. I think Spiderman would win because of his web making abilities.
Q. A penguin walks through your door right now wearing a sombrero. What does he say and why is he here?
A. The penguin says, “Do the funky penguin!” and he starts dancing.
Q. Who would you take on a date to space and why?
A. Buzz Aldrin (one of the first two Americans to land on the Moon) so he could give me a tour.
Q. What is the dumbest thing you’ve done recently?
A. I loaned a loser $500.
Q. Tell us something about yourself that will surprise us.
A. I have three grandchildren and I am a veteran.
