Today I decided to explore the Island a little bit more. As I was driving through
Chilmark, I noticed a sign for the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival. I have always
been a huge fan of film, so I decided to do a little bit of research on the festival.
Thomas Bena founded the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival (MVFF) in the winter of
2001. The MVFF was created as an alternative film experience featuring quality
independent films, dining, music and art. Today, the MVFF continues to produce film
screenings and events for all ages.
The MVFF states that their films are meant to spark discussion, debate and
community action. As an aspiring screenwriter myself, I have often noted the great
power that storytelling has in bringing awareness to global issues. Therefore, I was
very refreshed by the MVFF’s commitment to screening movies with important
messages.
I cannot wait to check out one of their events for myself. For more information
about the MVFF and their summer schedule, please visit www.tmvff.org.
