quarterdeck-oystersThe food we come to the Vineyard for

by Dirk Leisure

Vineyard eateries are impressive and somewhat eclectic in order to please every one’s taste and budget. The first thought that comes to most people’s minds when they find themselves hungry on the Vineyard is Seafood. Fried Seafood to be more specific. After all you can get other foods back home but when you’re this close to the ocean, you want to grab a basket of fresh fried seafood and take in the sights. The smell of the salty air and ocean views makes for a pleasant experience. The perfect spot to create this enjoyable scenery and food is the Quarterdeck on Dock St in Edgartown.

Tucked in behind the famous waterfront restaurant named The Seafood Shanty, this simple, take-out only seafood joint is just the perfect place for people who would rather grab their meal on the go. Even if it is only a short walk to the corner. Once there, one can sit on the one of the many waterfront benches or head next door to Memorial Wharf for sweeping views of the Edgartown harbor.

The Quarterdeck is like many of the island’s converted clam shacks with worn wood siding, large takeout windows and a massive sign which tells the menu items is hung above. Fast and easy accessibility, visitors will quickly grasp the feel of this fast food establishment but with added charm and charisma. Open from 11:00 am until 8 p.m (and later). The Quarterdeck makes it fast and easy to enjoy good eats for a perfect Martha’s Vineyard beach day or a stroll through historic Edgartown.

Fried Clams, Fish & Chips and the ever popular Clam Chowder are a few favorites that go hand in hand with the scenery. The menu goes on to include your traditional grill items (and kid favorites) Hot dogs, Hamburgers, French Fries and Popcorn Chicken are just a few examples. The Quarterdeck also boasts an award winning Corn Dog – we bet you can’t eat just one!!

Being the last stop for food before hopping over to Chappy, many people love to stop by and grab an order to take with them before heading out. Tuna Melts, Clam Cakes and Lobster Burgers are some picnic must-haves. With extended hours in the high season, the Quarterdeck is the only place to grab a late night meal from Thursday – Saturday.

A super friendly staff is always cooking up new creations, so stay tuned to the pages of This Week on MV for updates. Stop by the Quarterdeck and see why it’s become a local and visitor’s favorite spot for a good meal at a great price. P.S. Ask them for some bread to feed the ducks that swim peacefully about on the harbor so close to you.
