The Seafood Shanty is kicking off its summer theme night series on June 19 with Woofstock, a 60s party to raise funds for the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard. The 21+ event will begin at 10 p.m. in the upstairs area of the restaurant, where guests can dance and enjoy drinks until the restaurant closes at 12:30 a.m., said Matt Byrnes, bar manager of the Seafood Shanty.
Donations are optional and there will be Woofstock t-shirts on sale at the event, from which all proceeds will go to the shelter. Guests are encouraged to dress up in 60s-themed clothing for the night.
This is the second annual fundraiser for the shelter, thrown by Seafood Shanty owners Scott and Denise Page who are passionate about supporting the local shelter. Last year, the Pages matched the donations raised at the event as well, Byrnes said.
The shelter staff appreciates the help provided by the Pages, as the non-profit organization relies on donations and fundraisers in addition to grants to care for the animals. Currently, the shelter is housing 10 cats, 3 dogs and a guinea pig, said Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard assistant manager Gordon Healy.
“They’re very generous people, they’re always doing nice things for us, we love them,” Healy said.
Those not able to attend Woofstock but who wish to support the shelter are encouraged to make a contribution.
Donations may be sent directly to the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard by mail at ASMV, P.O. Box 1829, Edgartown, MA 02539, according to the shelter’s Facebook page. The shelter staff can be reached Tuesday – Saturday at 508-627-8662.
