Familiarity and Comfort at affordable price’s
Tucked away from the madness that patrols Main Street in Edgartown during the
Summer months, the Edgartown Diner offers familiarity and comfort for tourists and
locals alike — and at affordable price’s.
Located under the Edgartown movie theater in old post office square, the diner’s vibe
mimics those of an earlier Anytown, USA. “My Girl” plays over the speakers and guests
nestle into the aqua and white vinyl upholstered booths. Mismatched and funky
wallpaper hosts a spread of retro artifacts; most notably a shadow case Gene Autry
shrine, filled with toy revolvers and spurs.
Offering respite from fried seafood, the rudimentary menu nods to Southern cuisine.
With familiar diner comforts like hot pastrami served with melted swiss, tomato, and
onions on grilled rye or a brunch burger with 1/2 pound of Angus beef on a brioche roll
with bacon, egg, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion rings, the Edgartown Diner offers
consistency.
“We have been coming here for over twenty years,” said Jeanne Hein Thurber of New
Hampshire. “While many restaurants around here change seasonally, the Edgartown
Diner has good food, good prices, and great service. And it’s here!”
While Thurber said a family favorite on the menu is the Thanksgiving Diner turkey which
is served among cranberry sauce and gravy, her two daughters love the coconut shrimp
serviced with a sweet chili sauce.
“We eat here every day on vacation,” she said.
For those craving bacon and eggs, breakfast is served all day. Hash Benedict is served
with an English muffin, two poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, and home fries and the
customer-favorite Southern Bennie is offered with a southern twist: poached eggs
served over grilled cornbread and fried chicken and smothered with gravy. Customers
can also indulge their sweet tooth with fluffy pancakes topped with fresh fruit and
Vermont maple syrup or go all-in with Ralston’s stuffed French toast — a sumptuous
croissant filled with ricotta cheese and the customer’s choice of topping.
Dinner entrée items include Meatloaf, Thanksgiving Diner, BBQ Baby Back Ribs, Southern Style Fried
Chicken, and Blackened Salmon. Chef Ralston hails from Jamaica and brings some of his island roots into
the diner with Jerk Chicken. “But I keep things traditional American diner style,” this soft spoken, teddy
bear kind of man, added.
And no diner could be complete without milkshakes: the Edgartown Diner offers malts
and frappes to indulge in after a hearty meal. With classic flavors like chocolate, vanilla,
and strawberry, fair-priced creamy treats speak to the authenticity of meal at a diner.
Because even when you’re on vacation, there is nothing like the taste of home.
Edgartown Diner is located at 65 Main Street in Edgartown and is open from 8am-
8pm daily serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
