Bali, Thailand, Peru and Nepal all in one place. Now, after reading that sentence, you’re probably confused, right? Before you email the editors of this newspaper, pay a visit to Third World Trading Co. in Oak Bluffs. Taking you directly to Central America with the need to never come back, customers can find products from these wonderful countries, at an affordable price.

IMG_9948Immediately graced by the smell of incense and essential oils. Third World is chock full of organic products, handmade jewelry, and accessories. From giant wall-sized tapestries, to brightly colored sarongs and Day of the Dead skull decorations, visitors are taken on a journey to the outskirts of Machu Pichu and The Sahara.

Founder Lori Katsaunakis opened the boutique twenty-six years ago. “It started when my boyfriend traveled to Ecuador and brought back all these beautiful sweaters, hats, and colorful pieces. The next year, we had a giant Christmas sale which continued to happen for the next four years. That’s how it really started” explained Lori.

IMG_9930The atmosphere is unmistakable as Central South America, Ecuador, Peru and Africa are highly represented everywhere you turn. Carrying brands such as Altiplano (Guatemala), Siganka (Hawaii) and even multicolored hammocks by Eno, Lori offers a wide variety of products to choose from.

Along with Men’s and Women’s clothing and accessories including handbags, wallets and thousands of headbands, Third World carries a large selection of Kuumba Made Essential Oils. From Lavender Lace, Creamy Coconut, Arabian Musk or Sweet Rain, there is a scent for every visitor.

The variety  of products surpasses the number of countries as you travel around the store, teleporting to a different destination with every glance. From looking down to the neatly placed, delicately sewn purses, and up to the hanging décor that plasters the ceiling, Third World Co. is worth the visit.
